Yoga Nidra, also known as “yogic sleep” or “effortless relaxation,” is a deep meditation practice that draws our attention inwards, as we learn to surf between the states of wakefulness and sleep. The 10-step iRest® Yoga Nidra protocol, designed by clinical psychologist Richard Miller, systematically combines deep relaxation, affirmation, breathing, mindfulness, visualization and self-inquiry to facilitate the integration of body, mind, and spirit. Practitioners can expect to leave the practice feeling restored and rejuvenated.

iRest® is supported by scientific research and has historically been endorsed by the U.S. Army Surgeon General and recognized by the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury as a form of complementary and alternative medicine, thus warranting continuing research on its efficacy in the treatment of post-traumatic stress. Worldwide, iRest® is currently being utilized in hospitals, military bases, medical clinics, hospice, homeless shelters, community programs, and schools. Research has shown that iRest® effectively reduces PTSD, depression, anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, and chemical dependency while increasing health, resiliency, and well-being. You can find more details on the extensive research done on iRest® here: https://www.irest.org/irest-research

Absolutely anyone can practice iRest® Yoga Nidra - absolutely no experience with yoga or meditation is required. In fact, it has immense appeal for those who struggle to let go (shoutout to everyone who has ever “battled” through an attempt at meditation). It also has immense value for those suffering from sleep deprivation, trauma, anxiety or depression (to any degree). It’s also perfect for those who have always been curious about the deep states of meditation they have perhaps read about or stumbled across themselves but have never been able to recreate.

PREPARE:

Please wear something comfortable. The only yoga posture we’ll be doing is supported savasana (lying down in a comfortable position).

Mats, blankets, and bolsters are available, but you’re welcome to bring your own props for added comfort (eye pillow/mask, additional blanket, etc).

For the comfort of everyone, please do not wear strong scents or perfumes.
